Elephant Sanctuary @ Kuala Gandah
We visited Elephant Sanctuary @Kuala Gandah on the weekend and it’s great for 1-day getaway located about 2 hours away from KL.
We had heard this sanctuary is a rescue center for injured, unwanted, or risky elephants so we didn’t expect too much. No special activities like elephant riding; due to making elephants upset they canceled these kinds of activities.
The Elephant Sanctuary at Kuala Gandah in Malaysia is like a safe home for elephants. It started in 1989 to help elephants who lost their homes because of people cutting down forests or taking over their land. The sanctuary’s job is to care for these elephants and, when possible, help them go back to living in the wild.
They have a special team that helps move elephants safely when they get too close to towns or farms. Instead of hurting the elephants, they bring them here to the sanctuary, where they can be looked after and, hopefully, released back into the wild later.
People can visit the sanctuary to learn about elephants and see them up close. There are tours where visitors can watch the elephants being fed, take baths, and even help with planting trees.
The sanctuary also teaches people why it’s important to protect elephants and their homes. They work with schools and communities to spread the word about keeping elephants safe.
Besides taking care of elephants, the sanctuary also helps scientists study them. This helps us learn more about how elephants live and what we can do to help them in the future.
Admission is free however since it’s a rescue center, it’s good to consider donating.
It is a pretty awesome experience to see these cute creatures. But do not forget it’s just a rescue Elephant Sanctuary nothing fancy. However worth the visit!
